Last night was magical to say the least.
I went to see sufjan stevens
with one of my good friends ryan.
my mind was literally blown.
sufjan is traditionally a folk singer who sings simple acoustic melodies and wonderful tunes about different peoples lives in different states. he hadn't released a new album in years... until oct. 12, 2010. This album was NOTHING like the others. It is based on a man name Royal Robertson..
Royal is an african american who lived in Louisiana. He was a spiritual man who was very interested in sci fi and other worlds. he was basically unlearned besides what he learned from the bible and sci fi tv and books. he had out of body experiences in dreams and in person where he was 'visited from angels, aliens, and beings from other planets' who would instruct him. he had 12 kids and a beautiful wife. he was an artist, and often painted descriptions of such visions. the 'visitors' started to tell him that the government was after him so he started to become fearful of the mailman, neighbors, and eventually his wife AND his 12 children who he was utterly convinced were aliens from other planets. to say the least Royal was a very interesting fellow and he died in 1997 due to a heart attack he had while he was having a vision running around his front yard.
Take all this craziness and but it into squelching and scattered beats that flutter and burst sounds like nerves and anxiety being worked out. and you have the concert i went to last night. totally crazy. totally unlike anything i have every seen. and TOTALLY MY NEW FAVORITE CONCERT! i felt like i had gone insane by the end of it.
i am SO jealous!! seriously!? and what a loser i am-i didnt even know he had a new cd!!
